Addiction
We are now offering SUBOXONE (Buprenorphine) treatment of Opioid Addiction.
This medical breakthrough in addiction management blocks the effect of other narcotics while preventing withdrawal. The process is accomplished by an "agonist/antagonist" type of interaction with the opioid receptors in the brain.
Patients initiating this treatment must be in mild to moderate narcotic withdrawal and must abstain for 24-48 hrs for short acting opioids (Vicodin, Percocet, Oxycontin) and 48-96 hrs for longer acting opioids like Methadone. Additionally, Methadone patients must taper down to 30mg or less for at least a week prior to prevent a "precipitated withdrawal" effect. This treatment leaves patients feeling "normal" and not "doped up" and allows them to lead a normal life. Patients can eventually taper off of this medication if they chose to.
Patients interested in this treatment can come in on Monday to see Dr. Chipman without an appointment.
